Many visitors of all-inclusive trips, in addition to taking short boat trips or walks along the seafront, limit themselves to taking the shuttle from the airport and going directly to their hotel, where they spend their entire holiday moving from the pool to the restaurant and night clubs with laser lights.

However, Alanya also boasts an ancient jewel of its own. At the top of the cape, south of the modern center, stands the magnificent fortress complex, with the remains of a beautiful Seljuk castle, some impressive ruins, and even the vestiges of a small traditional village. Here are places to visit in Alanya!

Places To Visit in Alanya: Alanya Castle

A defensive structure from the 13th century, located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. The fortification erects during the reign of Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat on the foundations of Roman and Byzantine buildings.

Red Tower (Kızıl Kule)

Red Tower is one of the main attractions of Alanya; its image is even on the flag of the city. The facility locates on the territory of the port. It was built in the 13th century by a visiting Arab architect.

On the ground floor, there is an ethnographic museum; on the top floor, there is an observation deck where you can climb a stone staircase.

Seaport

The port of Alanya accepts passenger ships, mainly cruise ships that ply the so-called Turkish riviera. There is also a promenade along which it’s possible to go hiking or cycling.

You can purchase the restaurants and cafes of the marina that offer seafood and some memorabilia in the souvenir shops.

Alanya Lighthouse

The lighthouse locates on a rocky barrier on the edge of the harbor. After this important building was manufactured and assembled in France, it was immediately moved to Alanya.

The network reaches a height of 20 meters; the lighting system allows the signal to spread up to 200 miles, or about 370 km. The lighthouse has been operating regularly for over a century and is an extremely reliable reference point for ships arriving in port.

Tersane Shipyard

The shipyard has existed since 1228; for its intended use, it was used until 1361, providing everything necessary for the Sultan’s flotilla, which dominated this stretch of sea.

The shipyard locates in the port of Alanya, just behind the Red Tower: You can walk along the embankment or take a boat.

Archaeological Museum

The museum’s collection was created in 1967, but, to this day, it’s reconstructed, as archaeological excavations are constantly carried out in the vicinity of Alanya.

The exhibition comprises finds from different historical periods: Phrygian, Lydian, Greek, Byzantine.

The rooms display collections of ceramics, bronze and glass products, preserved elements of the external decoration of buildings, and much more.

Suleymaniye Mosque

The mosque was erected during the reign of Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent in the 16th century.

The building is a classic example of Ottoman architecture: Rigorous rectangular shapes, pointed arches, a spherical dome of a prayer hall, and a minaret that towers over the entire structure. The Muslim temple is active, so it’s problematic for representatives of other religions to enter.

Alanya Water Park

In Alanya itself, there is also a water park, so it isn’t necessary to travel several tens of kilometers. You can enjoy yourself without leaving the hotel, which many tourists will enjoy. And while it’s more modest in both size and composition of attractions than Water Planet, it has everything you need: Water slides, swimming pools, recreation areas, and standard infrastructure.
